Job Description

As the Agronomist and a team member of Midway Co-op, it is essential to prioritize the level of service provided to our customers; proactively communicate; work as a team; understand and promote the benefits of a Cooperative; troubleshoot and problem solve; collaborate across departments and locations; and continuously grow to enhance the service and products the Co-op provides.

 

The Agronomist is responsible for daily agronomy operations including excellent customer service; crop production marketing and education; business development and consulting; sales of products and services; detailed industry knowledge and experience; maintenance of Co-op equipment and vehicles; understanding agronomy billing and the Co-op’s credit policy; and accurate recordkeeping and reporting.

 

The Agronomist is responsible for working as a team member within the Co-op through current knowledge of sound crop consulting practices; industry news; and legal requirements. The Agronomist must have the ability to effectively recommend agronomy services and products; effectively manage time; communicate effectively both in writing and verbally; maintain a clean and organized work area; presenting a professional appearance; and be proactive in developing the Co-op’s business goals.

 

Responsibilities focus on excellent customer service; professional and effective communication skills; safe agronomy operations; business sales and growth; efficient planning and scheduling; troubleshooting and problem solving; soil and tissue testing; and prompt and accurate recordkeeping. The Agronomist must demonstrate ongoing proficiency in computer operations, various software programs and the willingness and ability to learn new software programs.

 

As the Agronomist, you will be responsible for promoting sales and use of Midway Co-op products and services. This position is based on the customers’ needs and therefore fluctuates as far as hours worked during peak seasons. Generally, this position is Monday through Friday, however the days and hours vary based on scheduled and non-scheduled customer calls. The schedule includes long days and various work times as necessary.

 

 

 

 

 

What You’ll Need to Do This Job:

· Remarkable teamwork, customer service, communication, organizational, and time management skills

· The ability to maintain and promote safety awareness; and follow safety policies, procedures and reporting requirements

· Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy or a related field; five years of related experience and/or training preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience

· A valid commercial driver’s license (Class A with a hazmat endorsement) or the ability to obtain and maintain this license with a safe driving record

· Cooperative or agricultural experience is preferred

· The ability to travel to farms, business meetings, and overnight business events as needed

· Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) certification or the ability to obtain and maintain this certification within two years is preferred

· The ability to manage difficult or emotional situations; respond promptly to customer needs; resolve questions, complaints and concerns immediately; and meet commitments

· Proficient computer operation skills and the ability to learn various software programs

· The ability to promptly report to work with regular attendance

· The ability to make and enforce sound business and personnel decisions and practices

· The ability to work with and maintain confidential information

· The ability to be flexible, manage change, and meet deadlines

· Strong verbal and written communication skills

· Analytical, problem solving, and conflict management skills

· The ability to pay attention to details and perform routine tasks

· The ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals

· The ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume

· Physically this position demands that an employee sit, stand and walk for long periods of time

 

· The ability to climb ladders or stairs regularly

· The ability to work inside or outside in an environment where there is exposure to:

o moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles including grain dust; outside weather conditions; wet and/or humid condition; extreme cold and extreme heat; toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration

o frequent exposure to high, precarious places; small/confined spaces; risk of electrical shock and explosives

o noise levels that are usually moderate

· The ability to stoop, bend, reach and kneel occasionally

· Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus including regular use of a computer

· The ability to lift 50 pounds regularly and up to 150 pounds occasionally

· The ability to perform all other duties as assigned
