Job Description

CD PROJEKT RED is looking for a Lead Technical Artist to join our studio in Boston to work on Project Orion, the follow-up to Cyberpunk 2077 and the next major video game in the Cyberpunk franchise. You will bring your years of expertise, leadership skills, attention to detail, and passion for creating content tools and pipelines that deliver a high level experience and facilitate hitting our art, gameplay, and visual objectives. 

Leadership

  • Develop and manage a tightly aligned and collaborative Technical Art team leveraging your skillsets in both digital content creation tools and real-time engines to devise, drive, and deliver high-quality content creation systems.
  • Manage direct reports and help them grow in their role and professional ambitions including setting up 1:1s, performance reviews, recruitment, and promotions. 
  • Work with Directors and Production to estimate and plan work.
  • Collaborate closely with designers, artists and other developers to understand their needs and ensure that your team is aligned to deliver on expectations.
  • Coordinate and drive cross-department functional teams from feature conception to completion. 
  • Establish and maintain best practices offering guidance to support content development team artistic and technical objectives. 
  • Mentor technical art team building an environment of creativity, trust, and excellence aligned with the company’s values and goals.

Pipeline

  • Prototype, research, integrate, and extend content systems in Unreal Engine 5 and digital content creation applications.
  • Devise, develop, document and maintain tools and pipelines for asset creation.
  • Solve complex technical art challenges while ensuring content creation processes are efficient and scalable.
  • Establish high-quality asset integration processes while maintaining performance and memory efficiency.
  • Actively participate in evaluating performance and optimization challenges to ensure seamless cross-team gameplay experiences.
  • Foster cross-functional collaboration to ensure the content tool and pipeline strategies work effectively across game teams and systems.
Qualifications

  • Minimum 7+ years of experience in the video games industry, including at least one shipped AAA title through the entire production lifecycle.
  • Strong leadership experience, including mentoring and guiding a technical art team.
  • Expertise in Unreal Engine 5.
  • Demonstrable professional experience developing pipelines, tools, and plugins that aid the content creation process.
  • Strong C++, C#, or Python tool development and scripting expertise.
  • Professional experience with procedural content systems such Unreal PCG, Substance Designer, Houdini, or Blender’s Geometry Nodes.
  • Experience in network automation, batching, and packaged environment setups.
  • Proven track record of building scalable modular pipelines and workflows.
  • Experience in real-time content runtime performance and memory optimizations. 
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically to overcome technical challenges and drive innovation in technology.
  • Demonstrated commitment to taking ownership, setting goals, exchanging knowledge and driving initiatives independently.

This job requires working in Boston, US.
Working mode: in-office in a hybrid or full-time capacity.
